This is an antique, Victorian, gothic revival hall chair dating to c.1880
Adorned with heraldic overtones, this chair is generously proportioned and heavily carved in English oak and upholstered with an ox-blood leather hide.
Raised on turned legs united by an 'H' stretcher, the seat rail is topped with a carved apron around the central leather seat panel. The padded arms sit upon turned risers and terminate in stylised lion masks with foliate manes.
The show back seat panel, edged with brass studs, is framed in carved swags and scrolls, flanked by a pair of tapering, fluted columns. The crest rail surmounted by a shield held upright by a pair of rampant lions.
Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
