This is a trio of vintage nesting boxes. A Japanese, lacquered celluloid set of small storage boxes with handpainted decor, dating to the Art Deco period, circa 1940.

Petite and charming, with eye-catching painted decor
Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
Deep lacquered tones catching the light in shimmers of dark red
Each of the inner trays fitting neatly within the larger outer box
Domed lids host traditional landscape scenes, handpainted in gold, green and orange hues
Interiors accentuated with distinctive mottled gilt finishes
