Antique Roll Top Desk, George III Writing Table
Our Stock # R0677
This is an antique roll top writing desk dating to the early 19th century in the reign of George III, c.1810.
Desirable and rare to find, this example is raised on square tapered legs, crafted in a well grained, light mahogany with a desirable aged patina in the waxed finish.
The cabinet front, ogee in form, features three broad drawers in the upper section with concave fronts, åÊabove a desk enclosure behind a retracting tambour panel. Beneath a row of three frieze drawers bring balance to the piece flanked by corner carvings to the flared upper legs.
The desk section presents an extending work surface in front of a central cupboard flanked by four drawers and cubby to each side, the drawers with brass button pulls.
The cabinet is dressed with demi-lune brass drop handles and brass keyhole linings with working locks and keys.
