This is an antique marquetry elbow chair. A Dutch, beech and fruitwood carver, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1800.

• Embodies the sinuous, inlaid splendour of late 18th century Dutch craftsmanship
• Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
• Fruitwood and Beech show fine grain interest
• Rich ember hues present in the stocks and the later upholstered cushion

• Arched top rail crowned with a scrolled back rest
• Typical of this period, the vase splat decorated with inlaid foliate detail
• Serpentine beech arms narrow at the rounded knuckle, with swept supports
• Drop-in seat with quality velour upholstery, issuing a flowerhead pattern

• Lower frame rail graced with a repeat of the inlaid marquetry for a highly decorative touch
• Broad knees cascade into pleasingly thick cabriole legs, terminating into pad feet
• Rear legs gently splayed, following the profile of the raked back rest
• Each leg united front to back with a wave shape H-stretcher
