This is an antique gimballed compass. An English, brass and glass decorative scientific instrument for display, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.

- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order — function untested
- Quality brass case presents minimal weathering and subdued golden tones
- Clear, bright glass dial in very good order, free of marks or loss
- Set upon a gimbal, with locking mechanism to the base
- Lift-up azimuth with articulated demi-lune degree marker
- Serial number engraved to the base '457' matching repair label within the case
- Maker's label to the mahogany case for J. Casartelli & Son, Salford, Manchester
