This is an antique gentleman's card table. An English, walnut master gaming table by James Phillips & Sons, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1840. 

• An exquisite example of early Victorian craftsmanship, with striking figuring
• Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order
• Select walnut stocks present fine grain interest
• Delightful caramel hues radiate beneath a quality wax polish finish

• Rectangular top finished with a distinctive leather medallion to the centre
• Rotating through 90 degrees with a firm action, the top extends to present the playing surface
• Bordered with fascinating burr walnut, the emerald green baize in superb order
• Useful drawer set within the fascia ideal for storing cards or cigars

• Drawer front dressed with an inset brass-lined lock — in working order, key present
• Maker's roundel to the drawer box for James Phillips & Sons Ltd, Bristol
• Striking shaped aprons and bold frieze shoulders decorate the body
• Raised upon decorative legs with carved motif and riding smoothly upon brass castors
