This is an antique ceremonial presentation box. A Japanese, lacquered decorative serving case, dating to the early Victorian period, circa 1860.

Fascinating form and decorative appeal
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order
Black lacquered Japanning provides a superb canvas for the decor
Accentuated with a palette of gold, red and green to great effect
Superb traditional scenes adorn each fascia, with figures, temples and Torii gates
Deep lid over raised base, offering a generous serving tray once removed
