This is an antique cameo wall plaque. An English, cast iron portrait of the 1st Duke of Wellington, dating to the Victorian period, engraved 1854.
Arthur Wellesley (1769 - 1852) was the first Duke of Wellington from 1814 until his death, when the line of succession passed the title to his son. Twice serving as British Prime Minister, Wellesley was also a successful military commander, allied with Field Marshal von Blücher in the decisive victory over Napoleon's forces at Waterloo.
