This is an antique sarcophagus cellarette. An English, mahogany wine cooler or storage case, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1780.
- Exceptional Georgian cooler, set within striking casework
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
- Select stocks present fine grain interest throughout
- Graced with deep caramel hues, accentuated with ebonised stringing
- Sarcophagus form with plinth lid - ideal for use as a side table with convenient storage
- Opening to a natural rest, presenting the original lead cooler lining
- Fascia with inset brass-lined lock — key absent
- Brass drop handles to side, set upon circular backplates
- Standing upon superb, cast brass hairy paw feet with scroll motif
- Delightfully weighty in the hand at 30.3kg (66.8 lb)
