This is antique copy of Ovid's Art of Love. An English translation of a Roman elegy, dating to the Regency period, dated 1824.
Originally written in Latin in 2 AD, Ars Amatoria - Art of Love in English - is an elegy across three sections. The first is written as a guide for a Roman gentleman to find a partner, with book two giving instruction on how to keep her. The final book reverses the narrative and instructs women how to keep a man. The text is written as if to entertain, being ironic, but never obscene. The writer, Publius Ovidius Naso (Ovid in English) was a Roman poet during the reign of Augustus.
