This is an antique helmet scuttle. An English, copper coal basket for the fireplace, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1880.

Wonderful patination to the globular form
Displaying a desirable aged patina and appealing weathering
Hand-beaten copper with rich amber hues and signs of gentle polishing
Articulated basket handle with rivet bonded horse-shoe shaped brackets
Standing upon four, small copper pad feet
