This is an antique regimental gong. A German, brass ordnance shell upon an oak base, dating to the First World War, engraved 1916.
- Fascinating repurposed ordnance, in the manner of Trench Art
- Displays a desirable aged patina, the shell casing bearing signs of action
- Quality oak frame presents fine grain interest and medullary rays
- Shell casing with a time worn appearance, lightly weathered throughout
- Suspended beneath the frame, the gong strikes with a prominent sustain
- Engraved to the top Patronenfabrik, Karlsruhe - Oktober 1916
- Replete with a quality spherical cork striker upon a beech handle
- Pleasingly substantial at 10.5 kg (23 lb), the shell alone weighing 5.81kg (12.8 lb)
