This is an antique Wainscote armchair. A Scottish, oak carved throne chair, dating to the mid Georgian period and later, circa 1750.
- Superb example, with a carved back rest and sinuous arms
- Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order
- Select oak stocks present fine grain interest and deep caramel hues
- Further accentuated by wisps of medullary rays
- Gently angled back rest with chamfered top rail
- Fascinating carved back, proudly displaying a Scottish thistle decor
- Profuse with scrolled detail and fleur de lys motif over a charming heart
- Downswept arms cascade to the broad, rolled knuckles
- Each arm raised upon a short baluster turned support
- Seat squab set at a comfortable height of 43.5cm (17.25'') - wide set for generous width
- Raised upon turned and collared front legs, with wide, square sections at rear
- United to each side with a tall stretcher rail, set within block feet
